The New York Times (April 2, 2004) quoted Falluja tribal leader Sheik Ghazi Al Abid as saying the mutilation of American corpses was “really bad for our city and gives a bad name to the resistance.” There was no mention of any apology for the murders—just for the mutilations and their associated bad PR. In absence of any call to stop the killing, Falluja has become a veritable war zone. Iraqi civil defense sergeant Taha Mahmoud said, “Anhy armed man (in Falluja) will be attacked. The people here will se them as occupiers.” U.S. Marine Major T.V. Johnson said, “We don’t have any active operations inside Falluja right now. Our plan for now is to stay out.” Special Guest DR.
